Riviera Beach and Singer Island, Palm Beach County

Commercial painting in Riviera Beach and Singer Island

Riviera Beach holds two very different kinds of painting work. On the mainland, the Port of Palm Beach packs container, fuel and bulk cargo onto about 165 acres. Across the Intracoastal, Singer Island's oceanfront towers face the Atlantic. Both put salt on every steel door, railing and wall.

In the downtown zoning districts, Sec. 31-535 regulates paint colors to keep a coordinated scheme: colors must be earth tones or pastels that suit the neighbors, and a building may use up to four colors, with body colors on at least 70 percent of the painted surface. The main-roads overlay asks for no more than three wall colors, but it applies to new buildings and large renovations.

The port describes itself as the fourth busiest container port among Florida's 14 deepwater ports, and it also handles diesel fuel, molasses and liquid asphalt. Industrial painting near it means corrosion-resistant systems on steel, work around trucks and gates, and wash water kept out of the drains.

On Singer Island, the city's high-density rules measure oceanfront lots to the 1997 coastal construction line. Towers there are repainted by swing stage or rope access, with the owner's anchorage records in hand. The island's southern tip is the separate Town of Palm Beach Shores, so we confirm which town the address is in.

Questions

Commercial painting in Riviera Beach and Singer Island

Are there color rules for a downtown Riviera Beach building?

Yes. The downtown districts call for earth-tone or pastel colors in harmony with neighbors, at least two and up to four colors per building, with body colors covering at least 70 percent. We check the city's review step for the address.

What does it cost to paint a commercial building?

There is no rate sheet. The quote comes from a visit, or from photos and drawings when they show enough, and it turns on the condition of each surface, the repairs found after washing, the coating system, how every wall is reached, who stays inside and which approvals come first. Two Palm Beach County buildings of the same size can need very different work.

Is lead paint a concern on an older building?

It can be. The federal government banned lead paint for homes in 1978, so older coats may still hold it. EPA's RRP rule reaches paid jobs that disturb old paint in housing of that age and in places young children use regularly, a day care in an older plaza for example. Those jobs go to an EPA-certified firm using lead-safe practices, so we ask the building's age and tenants first.

How long will the work take?

We set a sequence after the site visit, not before. It turns on what the walls look like once washed, how much repair they need, rain, how each face is reached, whether a board must vote on colors, and which hours the building lets us work. Once those are known, you get the order of work with each dependency named.
